Confession time. There’s this thing that happens to me every year from November to December…I shop. A lot. Not that I don’t love to shop year round, but I’m pretty frugal most of the year and stick to our monthly budgeted “fun money.” Something about the holiday sales coupled with the stress of the season drives my urge to spend this time of year, and while I told myself I was going to chill out in 2017 and spend less, Black Friday got me.
I managed to get my Christmas list knocked out during the pre-Black Friday sales, and since my family has made the communal decision to cut back on buying for one another, that means gifts for my husband, my little nieces, and Secret Santa gifts for my family’s name draw. I’m really bad about not shopping for myself though, especially when everything is discounted and I get 30 emails a day asking me to buy!
There are descriptions of my insane savings below, but feel free to skip them all and scroll straight to the haul videos!
The gorgeous BH Cosmetics Zodiac eyeshadow palette came out in November, and I’d had my eye on it since I saw the preview on Facebook in October. Seriously – you have to check it out – it’s TOO pretty.
Their pre-Black Friday sale + free shipping convinced me to buy two brush sets too. I used to make fun of people for having too many makeup brushes, but since I’ve started cleaning my brushes instead of letting them get disgusting, I get the appeal of not having to wash the same brushes after every use and have become a shameless brush hoarder.
On Black Friday I tried to hit one store: Ulta. I compared their sales with Sephora’s and the Ulta Doorbusters were hands-down way better than what Sephora had going on. I picked up a must-have blush palette and splurged on two half-off, high-end items that I normally wouldn’t have spent full-price money on.
And there I hit problem #1: If I spent $50, I’d get their 9-piece Ulta Black Friday kit that came with a cosmetics bag, plus I’d qualify for free shipping. The freebies always win me over. Grand total? $53 even.
This package actually went missing for a few days after it was marked delivered, but the woman on customer service was extremely helpful and it did show up 2-3 days later in perfect condition.
Wet n Wild
The one thing I wanted that Ulta stopped carrying was the Wet n Wild Mermaid Highlighter. It was still available on the Wet n Wild site…where they also happened to be doing a “mystery bundle” freebie if you spent over $20 and free shipping on orders over $35. Heck, if you spend the $20, you’re paying almost $35 with shipping costs anyway, so why not?
I ended up spending about $38 on the Wet n Wild site and getting a ton of stuff PLUS a huge bag of goodies in the mystery bundle – almost as much as I’d ordered!
Then I swore I was done shopping. Until I heard about the Nyx sale at Ulta for Cyber Monday. Nyx is sometimes hit or miss for me, but at almost 1/2 off all their eye and face products, I was up for a few new eyeshadow palettes. It was 40% off + another $10 off if you spent over $25 on Nyx products + I had $8 in Ulta points to redeem. The outcome? I got four – yes FOUR – Nyx palettes for $30 with free shipping. Full price? Around $68. I have no regrets.
Watch me have a bit of a contained tantrum in the video – 2 of the palettes weren’t bubble wrapped and came smashed. I’m always prepared to fight with customer service, but seriously? I have never had a better experience with customer service than I did with Ulta! I sent them an email about this one and they immediately shipped replacements to me and allowed me to return the broken ones at my local store. THANK YOU, Ulta, for being so kind, helpful, and on-top-of-things. I love to praise good customer service where I see it, and Ulta is really 10 out of 10 for me. These ones showed as delivered on a weird day too, but did show up unbroken and lovely the day after they said they’d been delivered. (Weird glitch in Ulta’s tracking system? Anyone else having issues like that?)
Colourpop and…even more Ulta???
Finally…yes, there’s more…
Ulta had a buy 1, get 1 50% BOGO on Freeman facial masks, so I picked up four and a Pacifica scrub because I love Pacifica makeup, but have never tried their skincare line. That was $31, but I can write those off as a business expense because I can test them all out and use them for facials on my massage clients. Love it when I can do that. I also purchased 3 Freeman masks on sale at the Dollar General here as well.
I hopped over to the Colourpop website just to see what they had. No major sales, but I picked up the My Little Pony Palette and their Moment of Weekness lipstick gift set, which was on sale, because I’m not super familiar with their products and want to try them out! They were too cute to resist, though they ran me a lot more for how little I got: $46.
Total damage to my wallet: About $237.
Check out the videos below for the full haul unboxing – there was so much that I had to do it in two parts! All the items in the videos (some are affiliate links, FYI) are listed underneath.
Holiday Makeup Haul:
Thank goodness for Steam’s Black Friday sale! As long as my husband gets to indulge in a little holiday shopping too, he doesn’t complain about my seasonal spree.
Have you tried any of these products? Which are your faves?
