January 2017 Ipsy Review PLUS Winter Walmart Beauty Box
That’s right guys! I got both of them yesterday and I am SO excited to share these with you. OK, to be honest, Walmart Beauty Box was a bit of a downer this winter, but one item made up for all the rest AND my first Ipsy box BLEW MY MIND.
Don’t have time to watch the video? Check out the descriptions below.
First up is Walmart Beauty Box, which was mildly disappointing. Most of the products were similar to what I received last month, and one product was EXACTLY the same muscle aches and pains bath soak I got last month. Not exciting.
Aveeno Active Naturals Lotion
I am not an Aveeno fan. I have always found their products to be underwhelming. They’re not bad. They just don’t ‘wow’ me, and most of the time their lotions are not moisturizing enough for me. I passed this along to my mom-in-law who LOVES Aveeno. Full-size $7.
Side note: I tried the sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner sample from Aveeno that I got in the last beauty box and it made my hair feel dry. Even less points for Aveeno, unfortunately.
Curel Hydra Therapy Wet Skin Moisturizer
This lotion is meant to go on right after a shower or bath, when your skin is still wet. I’m pretty much married to my coconut oil, but I’ll try it. Full-size $10.
Dove Deep Moisture Nourishing Body Wash
Meh. Dove ranks slightly higher on my list than Aveeno. They sent me the most horrible-smelling artificially orange-scented body wash last month. I was kind of disappointed to get more this month, and I prefer my essential oil soaps, but hey, at least this one smells nice. Full-size $9.
L’Oreal Smooth Intense Foil Sample
This is a hair-straightening shampoo/pre-conditioner/conditioner sample. Passed this along to my sister-in-law. I love my hair’s texture and haven’t straightened it in years. Full-size $8.
Neutrogena MoistureSmooth Color Stick
O.M.Friggin’G. This made up for everything in this box being completely blah. I AM SO IN LOVE WITH THIS LIP CRAYON. Seriously. It’s the prettiest peach with just enough shimmer, and it’s SUPER moisturizing. I’m going to be writing a post about my top lip products pretty soon, and this is definitely going on the list! Plus, it costs more than what I paid for the whole box, so my $5 was worth it. I will absolutely buy these in other colors. This is full-size and costs around $8.
Then there was Ipsy. Ipsy made my month – for real. I loved everything in this bag, AND the bag, which was inspired by the metals in skyscrapers, according to the Ipsy site. It’s a pretty metallic mesh bag in silver.
Because I was MUCH more enthused with the Ipsy bag than the Beauty Box, I tried all of these products immediately, and can give you a better review now.
Smashbox Cosmetics Camera Ready BB Cream
This sample is LITTLE, but I should get a few uses out of it so that I can see whether or not I like it. I haven’t used Smashbox much in the past, except for a few Sephora samples, so I’m happy to try it out. I tend to wear BB cream more than foundation, and Camera Ready is slightly tinted (I got it in light). Full-size $39.
ClariSEA Face Exfoliating Powder
Just tried this last night and I love it. It’s made with lavender, so of course I’m squeeing over how much I love it. Aside from that, however, it is an EXCELLENT product. It left my skin soft and feeling clean, but it wasn’t abrasive. The best part? This isn’t expensive. In fact, everyting on the ClariSEA site is affordable. VERY impressed. Full-size $14.
Naked Cosmetics Mica Pigment
OK, about to make myself sound like a noob…I’ve never used a mica pigment before. I wasn’t even sure HOW to use it and I almost made a huge mess opening it AND I didn’t realize it’s not just for eyeshadow. The Ipsy site gives ideas for mixing it with nail topcoat and some other things, but for me: eyeshadow. It’s a pretty bronze pigment called Desert Sunset. Full-size $15.
Pacifica BLUSHIOUS Blush
OK, first, can I just say that there is a UNICORN on the compact. A gold unicorn – so cute! This color is a pinky bronze called Wildrose. I need to play with this blush a little more. I don’t usually apply blush TOO heavily, but I might have to put a little more muscle behind this one because the pigment wasn’t very bold when I applied my normal amount. Full-size $12.
Rimmel London Lip Conditioning Balm
This is from Kate Moss’s line with Rimmel. I LOVE this. It’s so moisturizing without being sticky or filmy. I have been down on Rimmel since I had an allergic reaction to an eyeshadow in high school, but maybe I’m being unfair. Anyway, this is tied with the exfoliating powder for my favorite Ipsy product of the month. This is full size and costs around $6.
