5 Ways to Simplify Your Beauty Routine

5 ways to simplify your beauty routine

I don’t like complicated beauty routines. I have no desire to spend 2 hours in the morning putting my face on and another 2 at night taking it off. However, I do think it’s important to take care of your skin, if nothing else, and I wear basic makeup most days.

Here are 5 ways to simplify your beauty routine:

Simplify Your Products

Do you really need face wash, moisturizer, two eye creams, wrinkle cream…etc.? I hate to break it to you, but while good skin care helps, a lot of how we age is genetic.

Can you get your routine down to 2 or 3 products? Mine is face wash, astringent, moisturizer. Sometimes I don’t even use an astringent. And I’ve totally replaced expensive moisturizers with coconut oil – my face is so soft and while some people complain that coconut oil can clog pores, my skin tends toward dryness, and it’s actually improved the texture of my skin.

Have Go-To Makeup

I love those big Urban Decay eyeshadow palettes with alllllll the colors, like this one. I used to love picking out what colors I was going to wear for the day and how I was going to combine them.

It can be time consuming to do that though! Most of us aren’t wearing three shades of purple to work, so a neutral palette, like Urban Decay’s Naked set, looks good and narrows the choices.

The best system for me is to have one BB cream or foundation, one blush, one liner, and an eyeshadow palette. I’m not a fan of lip makeup, so I just wear peppermint Baby Lips (I’m a sucker for aaaany kind of peppermint lip balm) or EOS coconut lip balm and call it a day.

Having one choice for the day makes things so much easier, and you can save those gorgeous, colorful sets for special occasions and going out.

Wear Less Makeup – or None at All!

I gave up makeup when I was about 23, except for wearing it to weddings and other special events.

I’m 27 and I just started wearing it again (almost) every day, mainly because I missed the fun of putting it on and I have a few reddish areas on my cheeks that I don’t love.

For me, “every day” make up means BB cream or foundation, blush, and lip balm. I don’t even line my eyes most days, and I doubt anyone notices that I’m even wearing makeup.

That’s totally OK with me! I’m blessed/cursed with a husband who thinks makeup is gross and would prefer I never wore it ever, but makeup should be for you, not for impressing other people.

Wearing less makeup, or none at all, makes getting ready quick and easy. Instead of loading up makeup to cover blemishes and imperfections, focus your effort on great skincare to make your skin naturally beautiful!

Let Your Hair Go Natural

The detergents in shampoo and heat from hair dryers, curlers, and straighteners is a recipe for dry, frizzy hair. Dyeing your hair too much is asking for trouble too. Embrace your hair’s beautiful, natural texture, learn some cool braid/bun styles if your hair is long and gets in the way, and stop shampooing it all the time! You’ll spend less time doing it and your hair will be healthier.

Keep it Organized

Keep everything organized. Keep your every day makeup in one small, grab-and-go makeup zip bag so that you don’t have to dig for it every day.

And that’s it! Beauty isn’t painful. Beauty isn’t time consuming. It’s about simplifying things to accentuate what’s already naturally GORGEOUS about you. <3

Great post! I use coconut oil as well as a moisturizer. Hardly wear make up on a daily basis because who has time for that? But if I do I love my urban decay eye shadows! Sometimes I just do eyelashes, foundation, and lip gloss. I’m glad to know I’m not the only one:)

You have to do what works for you! I absolutely love coconut oil. I’ve always been really bad about staying on top of a skin care routine, and over the last month, I’ve been tracking it every day in my planner to make sure I do AM/PM skin care + I’ve been drinking more water. My skin is the best it’s been in years!

Love these tips! I’ve definitely been wearing less make-up of late. I feel like getting a really good skincare routine is a great way to simplify a make-up routine.

Such a great article! I started letting my hair remain natural in June. Some days are better than others, lol, but it’s so much healthier!

When I let mine go natural, I never turned back! Then my hair texture changed, so now I’m learning to go natural with a new texture. Thank you for stopping by!

These are really helpful tips! I hardly ever wear makeup lately because I just don’t feel like bothering – plus my husband prefers me without it, haha. 🙂 I wish I was more talented with it though, because I love how creative people can get with their makeup. Thank you for sharing this!

I wish I was more creative with it sometimes too! LOL My husband thinks makeup is “gross and unnecessary,” but he also knows that I like to play with it sometimes and that it makes me feel extra confident when I feel like getting prettied up 🙂 Thanks for stopping by!
