I know that January 1st is just another day with the same 24 hours as December 31st. It doesn’t matter – there is something about a New Year that gives me a burst of energy and renewal and puts me in goal setting mode. I love to set big goals and make plans to achieve them.

Passion Planner, which is a planner that was designed to help you set goals and break them into realistic and achievable action steps, has helped me do this for the last three years. If you haven’t checked it out, do it now! I’m a bit zealous about it because it’s been the best tool in helping me solidify and reach my goals and I’m in love with it. I really believe it’s a planner that can be adapted to anyone’s life and planning style, whether you’re a student, parent, teacher, business owner, blogger, etc.

But today’s post is about what I, personally, want to accomplish in 2018. I love looking at other people’s lists of goals and being inspired by the big things they want to do in the coming year, and I hope this will give you a bit of inspiration too.

Obviously, I’m getting very, very close to my March due date and my son is going to be here before I know it. My biggest goal of 2018 is to adjust to being a mom and not suck at it. Period.

But my life has always been multipassionate and multifaceted. There are other areas of my life that I want to do more in next year, so here’s what my 2018 Goals look like:

Home & Family

3-6 months of food in our pantry >> OK, this one may sound a little weird at first. No, I’m not a Doomsday prepper and I’m not building a bunker for the apocalypse! However, this is one of those strange things that’s really important to me.

In 2016, before my husband had his new job, he worked in construction. We went through two periods where he was laid off for weeks at a time, once because he had emergency surgery and once as he was transitioning into his new job. There were other times in years prior to that when he was laid off due to injuries or lack of work. We’re not rich people and his income is our primary income right now. Two weeks of him not working was really tough financially.

I started building my pantry with staple foods like pasta, rice, canned vegetables, condiments and pasta sauces, and canned meat at the beginning of 2016 and it eased he pain of not having a paycheck immensely when I could make dinner from a few grocery store basics and things from our stockpile. To me, having these kinds of foods around all the time, is just as important as building our emergency savings fund. It’s insurance that if one of us is injured or sick, if I lose a big client, or if, yes, some kind of natural disaster strikes, my family isn’t going to go hungry.

Save a $X per month >> While I’d rather not share my exact savings goal, we are working toward rebuilding our emergency fund (learn more about the importance of an emergency fund here) and saving toward a house and a second car. I want to make serious progress in 2018.

Regular date nights >> My husband’s shift work makes it difficult for us to see each other and spend quality time sometimes. If we don’t plan for it, it doesn’t happen, and I’m sure it’s not going to get easier with a baby. My marriage is so important to me, and to be honest, as crazy as he makes me sometimes, my husband is my most favorite person on the planet. I want to make sure we’re consistently making time for each other this coming year.

If you don’t know, blogging isn’t my “real” job. I’m a virtual assistant who specializes in digital marketing and social media management for bloggers and small businesses. I love, love, love my job. It’s flexible, challenging, and feeds my creativity. My business saw big changes and big growth in 2017 and I want 2018 to be even more amazing as I build my team and move into more of a CEO/marketing position in the business. Moving into that role also creates more time for me to work on other projects like blogging and passive income. I wrote this post on my other blog about why it’s so important to have multiple streams of income.

Increase my income to $X per month >> Again, I won’t mention the exact amount, but I definitely have a number in my head for what I want my paycheck to look like in 2018.

Add ghostwriting and ebook services >> I love writing. I love working with writers. I love helping businesses and people who want to write books make that happen. I started in the freelance world as a ghostwriter and I’d love to start offering ghostwriting and ebook services to my clients.

20+ clients >> In 2016, I worked with a business coach who helped me get my business’ momentum going through referrals, affiliate partnerships, and social media networking. I want to push even harder this year and have a list of at least 20 clients working with my company.

Passive income at $200+ per month >> This was a goal I set in 2017 that didn’t happen, but passive income – through blogging, paid online resources, and affiliate marketing – is a goal I’m still working toward. It doesn’t have to be huge to start, but a couple hundred dollars a month that we can tuck into savings would be amazing.

3 more websites >> As part of my passive income goal, I’m working on building blogs and niche sites and monetizing them through affiliate marketing. You can learn more about niche sites here and if you’re interested in professional blogging, check out How to Blog for Profit Without Selling Your Soul (affiliate link).

Autumn on Fox Street

Post 2x per week >> When you’re super busy, sometimes just posting regularly to a blog is a huge achievement! I want to bring you guys new posts and videos at least twice a week.

Bimonthly giveaways >> Giveaways are so much fun! I love sharing products that I love with all of you, interacting with you on social media, and hearing about what you’re all up to. I want to do more giveaways this year!

10,000 followers across all social media channels >> Growing a social following isn’t easy, and while it’s part of what I do for a living working for other people, it can be challenging to find time to do it for myself. I want to put some serious oomph into my social presence in 2018. Want to help me achieve this goal? Follow me on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter!

Join Octoly and RewardStyle >> Y’all know I don’t hide the fact that I’m trying to make money blogging. Honestly, if you’re taking the time to blog, review, share things you love, educate people…you should be monetizing it too. There is no shame in being compensated for sharing from your fountain of knowledge and using your experiences to help, inform, or entertain other people. The internet makes information sharing super easy, so don’t be afraid to give it a try this year!

In the fashion and beauty blogging world, RewardStyle is a big name affiliate program for linking products you recommend or review. Octoly is a company that matches you with brands that will send you PR products to review via blog posts or YouTube videos. Both require a specific amount of followers or page views to qualify to join them and I’d love to be a part of these programs this year!

500-1000 YouTube subscriptions >> I love making videos. I love it even more when people watch the videos I make. I want to improve the quality of my videos this year and get them in front of even more people on YouTube. You can subscribe to my channel here.

Amber Uninhibited

If you haven’t heard of it before, Amber Uninhibited is my blog about entrepreneurship for women. It was severely neglected in 2017 after pregnancy kind of took over my life, but for a long time, I was really focused on blogging and bringing information to women who want to work for themselves, particularly online. I want to revive that focus in 2018.

Post once a week >> Again, not a lofty goal, but it’s important for me to bring my readers new content regularly.

Develop paid resources >> One source of passive income I want to explore with my other blog is providing a paid membership library of business and marketing resources for women who want to start a new business, which will be updated regularly with new videos, tutorials, PDFs, ebooks, and other resources.

10,000 followers across all social media channels >> Same as Autumn on Fox Street – I just want to connect with more people this year!

Personal Goals

These are just a few things I want to do for me because I’m passionate about them and they make me happy!

Daily spiritual practice >> I’ve found that starting my day by honing in on my spiritual side really sets the tone for the rest of the day. Even 15-20 minutes of quiet and reflection makes a huge difference in my stress level throughout the rest of the day.

Read 20 novels >> I’ve always been a reader. I didn’t read one book in 2017, not one! Life just got busy. I want to make time to sit down with some great fiction in the New Year.

Study languages daily >> This is one passion that ebbed and flowed in 2017, but I want to make sure I’m making time to learn languages each day. It’s a lifelong goal of mine to be multilingual and we’re raising our son bilingual in English and German. I want to keep that spark and love of languages alive, even after my son is born, and hopefully pass that along to him. There may not be time to sit down and cram Spanish verbs for hours at a time, but even 15 minutes on my Duolingo app will keep me moving forward.

I dabble in a number of languages and we’ll be using German at home every day, but if I had to choose three languages that I want to make real progress with in 2018, Spanish and French are at the top of my list, then a tie between Portuguese and Chinese.

Love languages or want to know more about why I nerd out about alphabets and vocab? Check out the blog I’m writing with my friend Vanessa here.

Scrapbook 2018 >> I love to document life and scrapbooking has been an outlet for that. It was another one of those things I love that fell by the wayside last year. I’d like to pick it up again this year, even if I only get to sit down for 3 hours once a month and marathon scrap. I use the Project Life system from Becky Higgins.

Phew – that was a LONG post. I was going to include a list of tips for how to set bigger goals and knock them out in the New Year, but I think I’ll wrap up here. If you’d like a post like that, comment below and I’ll write one! Otherwise, tell me one thing you want to accomplish in 2018!
